Used press manufacturers

When sourcing a used press, the priority is the structural integrity and operational accuracy. You must verify the parallelism between the bolster and the slide to ensure uniform pressure distribution. Request a clearance test report for the bushings and bearings to check for excessive wear. It is essential to confirm if the clutch and brake systems have been refurbished, as these are critical for both performance and operator safety. Always ask for a video of the machine running under load to detect abnormal vibrations or noise.

The specifications depend on your application. For mechanical power presses, focus on the tonnage capacity, stroke length, and SPM (Strokes Per Minute). For hydraulic presses, prioritize the maximum pressure, daylight (opening height), and cylinder speed. Ensure the bolster size is compatible with your existing dies. Additionally, check the electrical voltage and frequency (e.g., 380V/50Hz vs 460V/60Hz) to ensure it matches your local power grid without requiring expensive transformers.

Safety is a major liability in heavy machinery. Ensure the press is equipped with dual-hand start buttons and light curtains (safety sensors). For the European market, verify if the machine can be retrofitted to meet CE marking requirements. For the US, it should align with OSHA and ANSI B11.1 standards. Even for used equipment, reputable suppliers on Made-in-China.com can often provide documentation of previous maintenance and safety upgrades.

A used press typically costs 40% to 60% less than a new one, but you must calculate the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). This includes the dismantling costs, specialized heavy-lift ocean freight, and installation/leveling at your facility. Factor in a contingency budget of 10-15% for replacing wear parts like seals, gaskets, or PLC batteries immediately upon arrival to ensure long-term reliability.

The biggest risk is hidden internal damage or missing components that are not visible in photos. To mitigate this, hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or BV) to conduct a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI). Another risk is rust during sea transit; ensure the supplier applies anti-rust oil to all machined surfaces and uses vacuum-sealed plastic wrapping and moisture-absorbent silica gel inside the wooden crates.

Focus your negotiation on value-added services rather than just the sticker price. Negotiate for the inclusion of essential spare parts (e.g., extra seals, relays, or foot switches) and a limited warranty on major components. Ask the supplier to provide foundation drawings and wiring diagrams in English as part of the deal. On Made-in-China.com, look for 'Diamond Members' or 'Audited Suppliers' to ensure you are dealing with established entities.

Used presses are often Oversized or Overweight (OOG). You may need Flat Rack containers or Breakbulk shipping instead of standard 40HQ containers. Ensure the supplier provides a detailed packing list and uses heavy-duty steel wire lashing to secure the machine to the container floor. Improper seafreight bracing can lead to the machine tipping, causing catastrophic damage to the frame.

Use Secured Payment services or Letter of Credit (L/C) for large transactions to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment and inspection. Avoid 100% upfront payments. A standard structure is 30% deposit and 70% after a successful video trial run and third-party inspection but before the machine leaves the factory floor.
