Olive oil cooking manufacturers

Understanding grades is critical for pricing and application. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is the highest quality, cold-pressed with an acidity level below 0.8%, ideal for dressings and low-heat cooking. Virgin Olive Oil has an acidity up to 2.0%. For high-volume commercial cooking or frying, Olive Pomace Oil or Refined Olive Oil are more economically feasible due to their higher smoke points and lower price points.

Buyers must ensure suppliers comply with IOC (International Olive Council) standards, which regulate chemical composition and sensory purity. For specific markets, look for HACCP and ISO 22000 for food safety management. If targeting the US market, FDA registration is mandatory; for the EU, adherence to Regulation (EU) No 29/2012 on marketing standards for olive oil is required. Organic (USDA or EU Organic) and Kosher/Halal certifications can significantly increase marketability.

Olive oil is sensitive to light, heat, and oxygen. Ensure the Peroxide Value is <20 meq O2/kg (lower is fresher) and UV absorption (K232, K270) levels are within limits to prove the oil isn't aged or adulterated. Packaging is vital: dark glass bottles, tinplate containers, or Bag-in-Box solutions are preferred to block UV rays. For bulk transport, Flexitanks with oxygen barriers are the industry standard for maintaining quality.

Olive oil is a high-risk category for adulteration. Request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch. Professional buyers should look for Sterol and Fatty Acid composition analysis to ensure no blending with cheaper seed oils. Prioritize suppliers on Made-in-China.com who offer third-party inspection services (like SGS or Bureau Veritas) to conduct pre-shipment sampling and testing.

The primary risks include oxidation during long-voyage shipping and adulteration with lower-grade oils. To mitigate this, use temperature-controlled containers (Reefers) if shipping through tropical zones and always include a quality contingency clause in your contract that allows for rejection if the peroxide value exceeds agreed limits upon arrival.

Focus on tiered pricing based on acidity levels and harvest timing. New harvest oil (October-January) commands a premium. Negotiate for flexible bottling options (private label/OEM) which can add brand value. On Made-in-China.com, leverage the 'Audit Reports' to identify Gold Suppliers with high production capacities to secure better volume discounts of 10-20%.

Use Escrow-based payment terms or Letters of Credit (L/C) for large first-time orders to ensure funds are only released upon presentation of valid shipping documents and inspection certificates. For shipping, ensure the Incoterms are clearly defined; CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) is often preferred for food products to ensure the cargo is insured against leakage or spoilage during the maritime journey.
